Family of Four (Yes, pets are family too!)
For my very first session in Virginia since moving here in early June 2023, I had the chance to photograph the Zaidi family at a gorgeous location--the State Arboretum of Virginia in Boyce, VA. I've seen several popular photographers who I look up to host their own sessions here so when Aamina suggested this spot, I knew it was going to be amazing!
Despite the overcast skies, we managed to have plenty of fun exploring the area and capturing gorgeous photos. As we all know, kids will be kids, and so when our little guy started to get upset because he wanted to hold the camera, I had a little trick up my sleeve to distract him. We actually ended up having to use a phone-holder on top of my camera and play Cocomelon to get him to look at the camera and wowza, it worked like a charm! Parents, take note: Use that crazy show to your advantage when you can LOL!
As for bringing your pet along for photos, here are some tips to make the session smooth:
- Bring treats and/or toys for your pets to help the photographer get their attention.
- Don't use their normal leash/collar. Purchase a leash/collar that is neutral and matches the color scheme of your outfits.
- Arrive early to the location so they can explore the new area. Run them if you can so they'll be tired and more likely to cooperate during the session rather than being overly excited.
- Don't forget to bring water for them (and may I suggest a small towel to wipe any drool too!)
